MARKETING TRANSLATION
Marketing Translation refers to the translation of all the marketing content and materials that a company relies upon to sell their products and services to customers in place of a salesperson. They bear the responsibility of carrying the brand image of a company to the outside world.
It is important to work with a translator who is specialised in marketing texts. Otherwise, the translation may turn out accurate but rather dry. Just like there are myriad writers specialised in writing non-fiction, science fiction, children's stories, picture books, poetry and so on, translators don't come in one unified mold. A highly proficient technical translator may not be able to handle marketing content, where every word is angled towards selling and promoting something - a product, service, event, brand or concept.
The difference between this and Transcreation is that general marketing materials tend to be more informative (think features and benefits in point form) than conceptual (big idea creative; translation combined with some copywriting). Tone of voice and style still matter, but the translation is not that likely to veer too far off from the source text.
If you need some brand or marketing materials translated and would like the translation to stick to the source content without recreating anything, you are looking for Marketing Translation and not Transcreation.
At Wei.Trans.Create, we have worked with many marketing agencies on their client projects - from logistics and warehousing, remittance service, co-working space to F&B and personal care brands.
