A Singapore Translation Agency - Do you know the 4 official languages in Singapore.jpg

At a Singapore Trivia game event that took place at a translation industry event, many participants - all translation industry professionals from around the world - selected Chinese as their answer to a question asking in what language the Singapore National Anthem is sung.

This cannot be further off the mark.

A multiracial country made up of more than 75 per cent ethnic Chinese, 11 per cent ethnic Malays and 7 per cent ethnic Indians, Singapore has a large Chinese population that is made up of the descendants of migrants that came to and settled in Singapore several generations ago.

But historically, Singapore used to be a part of Malaya, and the separation in 1965 created what we see today as Singapore and Malaysia - two nations that are forever linked by their past.

The country's national anthem, Majulah Singapura, written by songwriter Encik Zubir Said in 1958 is in Malay.

Malay is the national language of the country, even though English was the first language of communication adopted by the city - a neutral language not partial to the main ethnic groups of this new nation in its infancy.

As a Singapore translation agency, Wei.Trans.Create works with all its 4 official languages - English, Chinese, Malay and Tamil.
